It is time... time to move from football to basketball. I think I just heard some of you groan. The 2018 football season was outstanding. I think I can speak for the Texas 1A Fan team in saying that we really enjoyed each and every game covered. Thank you to all the coaches who allowed us to broadcast, and we appreciate you sharing the sideline with us. Now the football withdrawals set in, but there's really no time to think about it because the teams we cover just doubled! We're going to try to cover as many basketball games as possible. Some of you have already invited us to visit your gym. Thank you... we love that and will try to get there before the end of District play! And we aren't afraid to drive! This basketball season is shaping up to be quite a crazy one. The UIL realignment for 2018-2019 has us constantly checking who went to which region. It's probably going to take a while to get it all straight. Some districts have already started. District 28 Girls began on November 20th! If you've seen my pleas for help with District scores, you'll know I've been trying diligently to keep up. If you have scores for your team, send them in or enter them in ScoreStream. Those scores always show up in the basketball scoreboards on www.1afan.com. And then everyone can see them! This weekend saw many holiday tournaments. One thing I noticed is that many 1A schools played in large school tournaments and did very well! We might be 1A schools, but we play BIG. Keep it up! One little note... we post MANY basketball scores to twitter. We are also expert "retweeters." Because of algorithms in Facebook, it is difficult to post basketball scores continually and have many of you see them all. If you don't have Twitter, never fear! Every score we receive or retrieve ends up on the website scoreboards as soon as we get it. We look forward to seeing you all through January and into the first of February and then the playoffs. Before we know it, track season will be upon us... and baseball and softball, golf, tennis... it seems the sport seasons flow into each other and the years fly by in a blur. Go out and enjoy. Now that we're on the other side of Christmas, summer will be here before we know it! While you're out there enjoying your favorite 1A team, go forward and do GOOD!

It was a slobber knocker. Snot flew. Blood was drawn. McLean and White Deer. District foes. They know everything about each other and brought it all to the field in Amarillo for the State Quarterfinal game. I’ve watched these two teams several times this year. It is always a great battle. The Tigers and the Bucks bring everything they’ve got to this match up. You can look into the eyes of every single player and see the steely reserve; the “I’m going to give it absolutely everything I have,” and maybe a little, “You’re going down.” Anyone in the stadium when these two teams meet can feel the intensity radiating from the field as warmups begin. Last night was no different. Both towns turned out in force filling the stands. The cheerleaders yelled, the horns blew, and every eye was focused on the field. It is a great rivalry and the players did not disappoint. Both teams remained scoreless through the first quarter. McLean finally found some footing and proved more than the Bucks could handle. I’ve said it many times and I’ll say it again; the score was not indicative of the great effort on the field. It is always a great experience to watch two teams of this caliber compete. To the White Deer Bucks… you truly gave everything you had. Hold your heads high. You are great competitors! I expect to see you right back in the playoff hunt next year. I have really enjoyed watching you grow as a team this year. Keep up the hard work in the off season and please keep that determination I see in each of you. To the McLean Tigers… you are battle-tested and ready to prove yourselves. You truly play as a cohesive unit. A team always together. I’ve watched you get better and better yet remain humble. Keep your laser focus. You have battles yet to win. The season isn’t over, yet. I am extremely grateful to have covered as many teams as we have this football season. I’ve enjoyed watching every single team. Now there are only two games left until State Champions are crowned. I know I sound like a broken record but go see a game. You will see fierce competitors giving everything they have to play the game they love so much. Until next week, go forward and do GOOD! |
